Overview of Artist Rutie Borthwick
Rutie Borthwick graduated from The Slade School of Fine Art with an MFA in Fine Art in 2015, having previously studied Fine Art: Painting at Chelsea College of Art and Design London (2003-2006) and a graduate diploma at The Institute of Art in Therapy and Education London (2009-2010). Before attending The Slade, Borthwick took part in the Summer Residency Program at the School of Visual Art, New York (2012) and has therefore exhibited in numerous group exhibitions, art fairs and held solo shows in both London and New York. These include a solo painting exhibition at The Stables Gallery, London (2007); exhibiting 'Searching for a horizon' solo exhibition at Tricycle Gallery (2011); pop-up group exhibition at Sky Gallery New York (2012); open studios exhibition at SVA Artist Residency, New York (2012) The Other Art Fair, London (2012, 2013); The Slade Interim Show (2014); The Slade Degree Show (2015) and a group show, titled Imagine Exhibition also in 2015. Having already been awarded the Slade Print Fair Scholarship in 2014, due to her final degree show pieces, Borthwick was awarded the prestigious Adrian Curruthers Studio Award in 2015. In addition to exhibiting her own work across London and New York, Borthwick has curated exhibitions in London, Warwick and Tel-Aviv and fulfilled painting commissions at Leo Beck College, London and in Pushkar, India. Borthwick’s work has been featured editorially in ArtLyst, Event Magazine, Luxurious Magazine, Wall Street International Magazine and ArtSlant to name but a few.
